My Italian Vocabulary

I have an Italian-speaking client who’s helping me grow my vocabulary list of Italian words. We’ll be texting and he will drop a word in Italian when the English-speaking part of his brain cannot recall the word in English. Sometimes, he’ll deliberately use a word in Italian just because it’s fun for both of us. Here is my current and growing list of random Italian vocabulary…

• uovo = egg

• la blatta = roach

• ragazzo = youth

• adulto = adult

• adulti = adults

• zenzero = ginger

• spinaci = spinach

• ospedale = hospital

• bienvenuto al club = welcome to the club

• bianco = white

• giardini = gardens

• latte = milk

• patatini = potato chips

• tachipirina = Italian version of Tylenol

This next part of my vocabulary list are Italian words that I (and most english-speakers) picked up along the way just because they’ve become part of American culture!

• bambino = baby

• vino = wine

• ciao = goodbye (although, I also learned this is pretty formal)

I actually want to start learning Spanish because I think, as an American, it’s criminal to not know the second most spoken language in the United States. I’m embarrassed to have gone so long without being able to communicate with native Spanish-speaking people.
